The Host is the story of human host, Melanie Stryder into which an experienced soul, Wanderer is inserted. But somehow, Meyer managed to surprise me just a little bit. I went into this book with few expectations, because I knew it was going to be an easy, breezy read sans the literary quality. Of course, the larger picture brings older characters into the limelight, but attention is on the few school-going kids.Īnd just like the Twilight series, there comes The Host. It is about vampires, but those who are in their teens, one of whom falls in love with a teenage human girl.

Stephenie Meyer isn’t anything of a force to reckon with in literary circles. And the books weren’t as bad as the movies. But I will say this over and over again, like any booklover: The books were better. And yes, the Twilight movies were adapted from Meyer’s books.

In addition, though there's only one novel to adapt, the film is apparently being set up as the first in a trilogy. In this struggle the alien becomes overwhelmed by all of Melanie's memories and emotions.įrom this battle emerges a love triangle between a human in love with Melanie, and another member of The Souls called the Wanderer who loves The Seeker. But Melanie is relentless in her resistance to Wanderer and refuses to surrender her consciousness. Deadline has word that Inglourious Basterds beauty Diane Kruger will play The Seeker, one of the alien parasite species known as The Souls who is charged with converting Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) one of the last humans putting up a fight against the invasion. With much of the major human roles in the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's sci-fi novel The Host already taken, the time has come to cast the alien villain.
